Oops?

Can you accidentally start a business? I did and here's what happened.

Here’s one thing I hate:

I hate it when people say “I accidentally started a business.” Because 99% of the time that just doesn’t happen. There’s intent there and you know it, pal.

Well today my friends, I am in the 1%. I literally accidentally started a business.

I know, I know you may have seen a tweet from me about this, but i am going to be much more detailed in this email. Ignore that tweet.

That’s what this email is for, after all, right?

I posted this stupid video to IG and Tiktok without much of a thought. I posted it to promote the latest podcast episode. That’s it. It was just Nik and I riffing on ideas. It took 5 mins to edit and did the video in one take.

It…BLEW UP! And it’s still blowing up. Unlike Twitter, the lifespan of a video TT or IG video is actually fairly long. Here are the results:

  1. IG: 6.7m views and 33k new followers

  2. Tiktok: 3.2m views and 11k new followers

  3. Youtube: 8k longform views and my # of subscribers went from 2,700 to 4,500. And YT subscribers are VERY hard to get! It took dozens of longform videos to get to 2,700 and 1 stupid short form video to get to 4,500. And ironically, that same video didn’t even do well on YT Shorts.

Ok cool cool but who cares. What about the business I’m starting?

So the crazy thing is, I know the company that makes these perfume vending machines. I literally wanted to buy some a few months ago. But they were super slow to respond to me once this went viral, which drove me crazy.

So out of necessity I created perfumevending.com in about 5 minutes and started directing the viral traffic there.

Guys…guys…it’s been 3 days since that video went viral and look at the timestamps of the leads coming in on that form as of right this moment:

They’re coming in every few minutes!

So far I have 498 leads with interest to buy 3,325 machines! At $3k each!

Now sure, there are a lot of dreamers and tire kickers in there. But there’s also a TON of people that own a chain nightclubs in Romania, or a chain of perfume stores in Chile, or theaters in Albania! It’s outrageous!

These people have money and want to buy this thing and the manufacturer is like “hmm ok, can we chat on Thursday?”

Brother huhhh? What happens when you let go of an object? It falls. What happens when you sit on a lead? It freezes. It goes cold. The time is NOW.

So yes, I think I literally accidentally just started a business that will be importing and selling these machines from China.

I’ll let you know how it goes.

What happened to the stump grinding research? Still happening! Our cold caller is still cold calling.

Luckily enough, of allll the industries I’ve dabbled in, I know this one quite well! I’ve been importing electronics from China since 2010. And hey, these happen to be electronics!

So that’s what’s going on in my life right now.

You may notice that the format of these email is a bit more casual today. No formal intro. No list of “best tweets from last week.” Because I am always out of time, but I want to keep writing this. So I must find happy mediums.

So in an effort to save time, I’ll simply link to a Twitter advanced search every week that shows my best performing tweets of week prior. It’s the same result to you with less time invested on my end. Here you go: Top Tweets of Last Week

Instead of a fancy intro where I smoothly talk about what happened on my podcast this week, I’ll just say something more like this:

PLEASE JUST SUBSCRIBE TO MY PODCAST AND YT BECAUSE ITS GOOD AND I KNOW YOU’LL LIKE IT AND I LIKE TO THINK IT’S DIFFERENT THAN THE OTHERS OUT THERE. If it sucks then LMK and I’ll make it not suck.

I cringed as I wrote that but there’s a whole world on the other side of a little cringe. It’s like knocking on a door in Hungary and selling religion…22,000 times in a row.

I released 3 episodes last week and will be releasing 3 every week from here on out. Here’s what they were last week and what they will be this week, from oldest to newest. And I’ll just tell you straight up which are good and which you can care to skip, based on both my opinion and what the data shows so far:

Last week:

  1. Q&A episode. It was just okay TBH. Hitting pause on this exact format for a bit.

  2. HoldCo bros episode with Nik where we discuss 6 ideas, including this perfume biz. This is the one that went viral! It’s good.

  3. Shannon returned to talk high ticket item flipping. Performed really well. Retention is very strong.

This week:

  1. Today: Lawn leveling biz deep dive. I think you’ll like this one. The YT video is trending to do great but too early to see the podcast stats.

  2. Wednesday is holdco bros with Nik. Should be great.

  3. Friday is TBH. I have a big backlog and haven’t decided yet.

How does this new email format work? I don’t want you to waste your time on something that others aren’t enjoying either. I’ll keep it real with y’all.

As always, you can find my podcast/youtube here:

Side note, the vasectomy was a huge nothingburger. Almost zero pain during or after.

Also, do you mind if I call y’all TKO Bros? As in, The Koerner Office bros? I don’t want to ignore our female readers here but I’m pretty sure there are almost none!

As always, thanks for reading! Please share with a friend because I used to have a referral program but I don’t anymore because it was too hard to manage.
