The $9,000 a Week Business Hiding in Plain Sight

Happy Thursday!
In case you forgot, I’m that guy (@thekoerneroffice on IG + FB + Tiktok) that you probably found in a short form video talking about random business ideas.
Today I’m showing you an idea that anyone with $100 can start that has very low competition and very high upside!
In this weekly newsletter I get super tactical about cool, random business ideas and how to launch them. You’re getting this email because I gave you a free business plan and toolkit («-bookmark this!)
Who am I? I’m Chris Koerner: Dad of 4, husband of 16 years and proud Texan. I’ve started 75+ business (3 worth over $10m) and give away all of my learnings for free in a once/week email.
Let’s get to it, shall we?

There's something about being in Utah that always gets my brain firing. Maybe it's because people here are in the top 1% worldwide for grit, work ethic, and sales chops. Or maybe something in the mountain air just makes you want to build something.
I just discovered what might be the most overlooked business opportunity in America. It's literally sitting right in front of your house. I talked about it in detail on the podcast (Apple - Spotify - YouTube) but I wanted to break it down here for you too - because it’s so crazy simple and so lucrative.
One guy made over $9,000 in a single week with nothing but paint and a shovel. Another turned a side hustle posting dog-shaped mailboxes on Facebook into a full-blown profitable business shipping worldwide.
And here's the kicker: You could start this business tomorrow with $100 and zero special skills.
But first, next month I’m speaking at a free virtual conference called the Creator Business Summit. There’s only 4 speakers - me, Shaan Puri, Codie Sanchez and Tyler Denk, the founder of Beehiiv. We’re talking about all things product launches, monetization, audience growth and about a ton more tactics to help you start or grow your business. Register for free here!
The Business Everyone Walks Past
I'm talking about mailbox installation and repair.
I know what you're thinking. Mailboxes? Really, Chris?
But hear me out. Last week, I went for a walk through a random neighborhood and counted 14 mailboxes that desperately needed fixing. Fourteen! If I knocked on those 14 doors, what do you think my close rate would be?
Super high. Because I know for a fact they need that work done.
It's like my friend Cinco who runs a line striping business. He has an insanely high close rate because every door he knocks belongs to someone with a parking lot that has faded lines. I call this "fishing where you know the fish are."
And neighborhoods like this are everywhere in America.
The Numbers That Made Me Stop Everything
Here's what grabbed my attention:
There are 160 million delivery points in America. Every single one of those mailboxes will eventually break, rust, or get run over. Most homeowners either don't know how to fix them or don't have the tools.
The margins? Absolutely insane.
You buy materials at Home Depot for about $100. You charge between $350-$550 for the install. That's $250-$450 profit for 1-2 hours of work. Do the math. That's $125-$450 per hour.
But here's where it gets really interesting.
Three Massive Tidal Waves
I always look for businesses with huge tailwinds behind them. This industry has three:
Tidal Wave #1: Mail Theft Porch pirates are everywhere. People want secure mailboxes more than ever. Google "mail theft statistics" and you'll see it's only getting worse.
Tidal Wave #2: HOA Madness Homeowners associations are going crazy with uniform requirements. New developments want every mailbox to look identical. One HOA contract could be worth tens of thousands of dollars.
Tidal Wave #3: HGTV Culture Thanks to social media and home improvement shows, everyone wants better curb appeal. A beautiful mailbox is like jewelry for your house. It's the first thing people see.
These aren't small trends. These are massive forces creating more demand every single day.
The $9,000 Facebook Comment
Remember that guy I mentioned who made $9K in a week? Here's exactly how it happened:
He was scrolling through his neighborhood Facebook group. Someone posted asking for mailbox help. He commented with a simple offer. The HOA president saw it and called him directly.
One comment. One week of work. Nine thousand dollars.
That's the power of being in the right place when people need exactly what you offer.
Why This Works When Other Businesses Don't
Most businesses fail because they're trying to create demand that doesn't exist. You're spending all your time convincing people they need something.
With broken mailboxes, the demand is obvious. Visual. Undeniable.
When was the last time you went to a dinner party and someone said, "Oh, I fix mailboxes for a living"? Never. That's never happened to anyone.
But it's about to happen to you.
Three Ways to Attack This Market
The Handyman Route: Start local, target aging neighborhoods, focus on repairs. Dirty work, but great money and low startup costs.
The Custom Artist Route: Create unique, Instagram-worthy mailboxes. Higher prices, fewer customers, but massive profit margins. Ship nationwide.
The HOA Contractor Route: Sell to one HOA to sell to many homes. Longer sales cycle, but much bigger contracts.
Pick the one that fits your personality and skills.
Never Miss a Lead
Let’s take a second to be real: when someone calls your business, you're probably doing five other things. Driving. In a meeting. Wrestling a printer. Fixing a mailbox… And that missed call? That’s a missed opportunity.

The Marketing Hack Everyone Misses
Here's what most people get wrong about marketing: They overcomplicate it.
For this business, your highest ROI marketing method is stupidly simple: Neighborhood Facebook groups and NextDoor.
That Reddit handyman who got the $9K job? It came from one Facebook reply. Not even his own post. Just a reply to someone else's question.
Post before and after pictures. Jump on every relevant conversation. Become known as the mailbox person in your area.
And here's a pro tip: You can run NextDoor ads to specific neighborhoods. Find the areas with older homes and broken mailboxes. Run ads only to those neighborhoods. Spend $20-30 to reach 2,000-4,000 homeowners who actually need your service.
The Opportunity Audit
Want to test this idea? Here's what you do this weekend:
Drive or walk around neighborhoods near you. Take notes. Have a spreadsheet ready. Count how many mailboxes need repairs.
Try to find at least 20 opportunities within 15 minutes of your house. Write down the exact addresses.
These aren't just research targets. These are your first customers.
And you know what? If you really want to move fast, knock on those doors right then. Why wait? You'll never be more excited about this idea than in that moment.
The Reality Check Math
Let's say you live in a city with 100,000 people. Standard mailboxes need replacement about every 10 years. That means 5,000 mailboxes in your area need work every year.
If you capture just 5% of that market at $500 per job, that's $125,000 in revenue.
If you're more aggressive and capture 20%? That's $500,000. Subtract 20% for materials and you're looking at $400,000 in profit.
Of course, business is hard. Things break. Customers complain. You'll have insurance costs and bad days.
But here's the thing: You're going to have problems in any business. The difference is, would you rather deal with a difficult customer who's mad about their mailbox installation, or spend the next 10 years in a soul-crushing job wondering "what if"?
Why I'm Telling You This
I don't sell mailbox installation courses. I don't have a secret affiliate link to post hole diggers. I'm sharing this because my Google keyword research, trend analysis, and market indicators are all screaming the same thing:
There's a massive opportunity here that almost no one is talking about.
Most people are chasing the same oversaturated markets everyone else is fighting over. Meanwhile, there are 160 million mailboxes in America, and most of them are going to need help eventually.
The question isn't whether this opportunity exists. The question is whether you're going to act on it.
Remember: Business is about momentum. It's about getting your first dollar. It's not about starting something you can brag about at Thanksgiving.
What's more miserable? Installing mailboxes for two hours and making $500? Or working at a job you hate for the rest of your life, knowing that every year you don't quit makes it harder to finally escape?
Your choice.
Let's get after it.
